We wired the bin through its many holes to those heavy duty stakes with coated thick wire. Having fir (evergreen) tree needles we made our first layer with those to prevent weed growth before layering in compostable matter We live in an area that gets, at times, hurricane-force winds, and this survived without falling over. We don't use it for food scraps, except coffee grounds, due to the risk of rodents, but it has been a great item for leaves, safe yard waste, and grass trimmings. We don't use it for food scraps, except coffee grounds, due to the risk of rodents, but it has been a great item for leaves, safe yard waste, and grass trimmings. This material is made to last and has not faded. Sadly we have so many grass clippings it has never been a good idea to fill it up due to too much ammonia from those clippings, which could hurt your gardening soil and plants due to an imbalance...but I could buy two more and really get this things going with layers of straw, leaves, soil and grass clippings. It will last, that's my point. You can then, when ready, unwire your bin and open up a lot of compost for shoveling. Just use a compost turner or composting pitchfork to aerate, and a composter mix like Dr Earth could also help get this started. It takes longer to get it heated up because this is not a bucket/barrel style composter. ;Lessfreezerbuyer · Review provided by Home DepotAll Reviews
