I am not trying to compare it to ones costing hundreds or even a thousand dollars or more. It does compare favorably to those in the 50-200 dollar price range.I have owned mine for 10 years or more, don't really remember. I came here to download a manual as I hadn't used it in quite a while and forgot how to set it up. I noticed many negative reviews, so I thought I would leave one after I used it again. My dog lost her dog license somewhere on our on acre parcel and that's why I decided to get out the ol' detector.If you read the manual and set it up and use it exactly as the manual says, you will get satisfactory results. By reading some of the more harsh reviews, it sounded like some of the new owners thought they knew better than the manual, threw in some batteries without reading the manual or setting it up and balancing it correctly and expected it to work like the one used in the TV show "Curse of Oak Island". That's not the case. you have to work with it, do a little testing on various items and get use to what the sounds and meter means. You must use it as the designer intended. You can't turn the accelerator pedal in your car into the brake because that's the way you think it should work. Why would you think any other item would be different? Follow the directions. If you want the thing to work like the professional one I mentioned, then go out and spend a thousand dollars for that metal detector. If you want to have a little fun while camping or around the house with the kids or grand kids then this one will suffice and work for years if properly used.Did I find the dog license? No, but I did find a few coins, old watch, nuts, bolts, screws, brackets and assorted other junk.
