DetailShe was listed as the flagship of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbour. Participating in a number of naval actions, she fired her main armament against enemy surface vessels only once; during the battle of Leyte Gulf. She survived the war but was sunk by the underwater nuclear test BAKER at Bikini Atoll in 1946. Nagato was laid down at the Kure Naval Arsenal on the 28 of August in 1917. She was launched on November 9, 1919 and completed on November 15, 1920. Undergoing a major refit in 1936 she replaced her coal-burning boilers and upgraded her armour and anti-aircraft guns. She was definitely a force to be reckoned with achieveing a top speed of 27 knots. The outbreak of the Pacific war marks the Nagato as the flagship for the Combined Fleet. "Niitaka yama nobore" translated to Climb Mount Niitaka, the signal for the Carrier Strike Force in the North Pacific to proceed with its attack on Pearl Harbour was issued by Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto; committing Japan to the Pacific War.
