DetailAny proud citizen of St. Louis will tell you their fair city financed the plane that Charles Lindbergh flew solo across the Atlantic. He took off from Roosevelt airfield in New York and made history 33 hours and 30 minutes later, landing at Le Bourget Aerodome in Paris. He had this plane built to his specifications to make the journey, and this hand-made model accurately represents the famous aircraft in many ways. Three extra fuel tanks obscured a direct front view. As you can see from this model, the small windows on the front afforded Lindberg a front view only through a periscope. This design was needed for the most economical fuel consumption and weight distribution. Months of thought went into building the Spirit of St. Louis to ensure success.
